Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is a popular destination for both tourists and locals, and understanding parking costs and rates is essential for a hassle-free experience. Street parking is available but often comes with time limits and costs that can vary by location.

For instance, Ocean Boulevard tends to have higher rates due to its close distance to the beach and various entertainment venues. Always check the posted signs for specific regulations and enforcement hours to avoid fines.
Understanding Hourly and Daily Parking Rates
Myrtle Beach parking costs vary significantly depending on location and season. Hourly meter rates typically range from $1 to $2 per hour along Ocean Boulevard and other central streets, enforced between 9 AM and 8 PM. During peak tourist season, expect to pay around $3 per hour in high-demand areas near the Boardwalk. Daily rates offer better value. Most public lots charge $10 to $12 for a full day, making them ideal for beach visitors and shoppers.
Peak season pricing tells the real story though. Short-term parking near the beach can spike to $32 per day, especially during holidays and summer weekends. The Grand Strand area experiences the sharpest increases. Long-term options at Myrtle Beach International Airport provide relief at just $10 to $12 daily, making them perfect for residents traveling out of town. Understanding these tiers helps you budget effectively and avoid surprise charges when exploring the city.
Payment Methods and Meter Enforcement
Modern payment flexibility makes parking easier across Myrtle Beach. Pay-and-display machines dominate public lots, accepting both cash and credit cards without hassle. The City of Myrtle Beach parking meters page details all accepted payment methods and current rates. Most meters operate on a predictable schedule, eliminating confusion about when enforcement begins or ends.
Metered parking enforcement runs consistently from 9 AM to 8 PM across residential zones and commercial districts. This predictability helps locals plan their days around parking availability. For residents seeking permanent solutions, non-resident decal options provide discounted rates and longer parking windows. The airport's facilities accept all major payment forms, making it convenient whether you're dropping off luggage or settling in for an extended trip.
Why Myrtle Beach Parking Costs Spike During Peak Season
Myrtle Beach attracts millions of tourists annually, creating intense demand for limited parking spaces. This surge pricing frustrates both visitors and residents navigating popular destinations. Short-term parking costs near attractions like the Boardwalk and Broadway at the Beach regularly jump to $32 per day during summer and holidays. The Grand Strand area experiences the most dramatic increases, with some operators implementing dynamic pricing that shifts hourly based on demand.
Residents feel the pinch most acutely. A local commuting to work near Ocean Boulevard might spend $300 monthly on meter fees alone. This ongoing expense pushes many to seek alternatives. Affordable Private Parking Solutions and Alternatives
Peer-to-peer parking platforms offer genuine relief from municipal meter rates. Private spaces booked through trusted apps provide guaranteed parking spots at predictable prices, often starting around $12 daily: a 60% savings compared to downtown meters. These reserved spaces eliminate circling for hours and guarantee availability, even during peak season. Property owners throughout Myrtle Beach increasingly list underutilized driveways and lots, creating competitive pricing that benefits everyone.
Smart residents are switching strategies entirely. Sarah, who lived near the Boardwalk, cut her monthly parking expense from $300 to $100 by booking a private spot in advance. That's $2,400 in annual savings. The evolution of parking solutions shows this trend accelerating nationwide. Long-term airport parking remains another economical choice at $10 to $12 daily for those willing to use shuttle services. Combining these options creates flexibility that municipal-only parking simply cannot match for budget-conscious Myrtle Beach residents.
How Local Expertise Beats Surprise Parking Fees
Knowing Myrtle Beach's parking landscape prevents costly mistakes. Peak season rates near the Boardwalk and downtown shopping districts represent the worst-case scenario financially. But understanding where these hotspots exist (Ocean Boulevard, the Grand Strand vicinity, and Broadway at the Beach) lets you plan smarter routes and parking choices. Street-level knowledge beats guessing every time. Experienced locals recognize that residential neighborhoods just two blocks from beach attractions offer significantly cheaper metered parking with identical access times.
The city's enforcement schedule provides another advantage. Since meters only operate 9 AM to 8 PM, evening visitors can park free in many downtown locations. Knowing that Myrtle Beach International Airport offers consistent $10 daily rates year-round gives you a reliable backup plan. Residents who've lived here years develop intuition about where demand peaks and where calm prevails.
