Parksy Safety Guide: Renting and Listing Parking Safely

Parksy connects drivers directly with the people who own parking spaces. That directness is what keeps it cheap, and it also means you are dealing with a real person rather than a company. Most of them are exactly who they say they are. This guide is for the ones who are not, and for the ordinary mistakes that cost people money.

If you only read one line: never pay for a parking space you have not seen, to someone who wants to be paid off-platform. Almost every rental scam we see comes down to those two things happening together.

Before You Rent a Space

Inspect the space, confirm the person offering it is actually entitled to let it, and get the terms in writing before any money moves.

Before You List Your Space

As an owner you are handing a stranger a key, a remote or a gate code, and often access to the building you live in. That deserves the same care a driver gives to a payment.

Scams to Watch For

The tactics repeat. Once you have seen them written down they are hard to miss: a push to move off the platform, urgency, a payment link that does not belong to anyone you can hold responsible.

Paying and Getting Paid

Payment method decides whether you have any recourse when something goes wrong. Some rails can claw a payment back; several popular ones cannot.

Protecting Your Privacy

A parking listing does not need your exact street number, your personal mobile or your main email address to work.

Reporting a Listing or a User

If something looks wrong, tell us. Reports are how bad listings get found. We would far rather check a report that turns out to be nothing.

Agreements and Paperwork

A written agreement is the cheapest protection either side can get, and it settles most disputes before they start. These templates are free to use.

Our Rules and How We Work

If Something Has Already Gone Wrong

Report it to us, and report it to the consumer protection body where you live: Scamwatch in Australia, Action Fraud in the UK, or the FTC in the United States. If you paid by card or bank transfer, contact your bank the same day: recovery chances drop sharply after the first 24 hours.

For a problem with a rental itself, such as a refund, an overstay or a gate that stopped working, follow our step by step guide to what to do when something goes wrong.
