Understanding the NSW Mobility Parking Scheme
Residents of Coogee can apply for mobility parking permits through the NSW Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS), which supports individuals with disabilities that affect their mobility. Two primary permit types exist: the individual permit is a blue card valid for five years, while the temporary permit is a red card valid for up to six months. Service NSW issues these permits, allowing holders to access designated disability spaces across the state, making it easier to reach essential locations like Coogee Beach, local shopping centres, and Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick just 3 km away.
Eligibility requires proof of disability confirmed by a medical professional. A doctor's report is essential for first-time applications or new medical conditions. Service NSW will facilitate your photo during the application process. The process is straightforward but requires proper documentation. Getting your permit unlocks convenient access to accessible parking throughout Coogee.

Understanding Parking Regulations and Compliance
Permits under the NSW Mobility Parking Scheme allow holders to utilize designated disability car spaces across the state with important regulations. These accessible bays must measure at least 3.2 metres wide, ensuring ample space for wheelchair access. Misuse of permits leads to severe penalties, including fines up to $550. Local enforcement authorities actively monitor violations to ensure spaces remain available for genuine users. Compliance protects access for those who truly need it.
Displaying your permit correctly is essential for legal parking in accessible spaces. Keep your blue or red card visible on your dashboard at all times. Understand that permits are personal and non-transferable unless you're accompanied by the cardholder. Unauthorised use damages the scheme's integrity. For more information on accessible parking requirements, review local council guidelines. Respecting these rules ensures Coogee's accessible parking remains fair and available for all eligible residents.
