Getting Your Disability Parking Permit in Double Bay
Applying for a mobility parking permit in Double Bay is straightforward once you understand the process. You'll need a medical report from a qualified doctor or specialist confirming your disability status. Service NSW handles all applications, whether you apply online or visit a local centre in person. The whole process typically takes a few weeks.
There are two main permit types available. Individual permits last five years for permanent disabilities, while temporary permits cover short-term conditions like injuries for up to six months. After obtaining your medical certificate and completing the Mobility Parking Scheme Application form, you may need a photo taken at a Service NSW centre unless your disability prevents attendance. Once approved, your permit grants access to designated accessible spaces across New South Wales, including all Double Bay parking zones.
Understanding Your Permit Benefits and Usage Rules
Mobility parking permits offer substantial advantages beyond just reserved spaces. Permit holders can park in metered areas without paying charges, providing real savings for regular visitors to places like the Double Bay Day Hospital on Cross Street. You'll also enjoy extended parking durations in time-limited zones, eliminating the stress of constantly feeding meters or rushing back to your vehicle.
Proper permit display is essential to avoid fines up to $550 and potential vehicle towing. Your permit must be clearly visible on your windscreen at all times when using disability parking spaces. Double Bay's Woollahra Municipal Council enforces these regulations strictly, so ensure your permit remains valid and properly displayed.
