NSW Mobility Parking Permits Explained
In Petersham, individuals with mobility disabilities can apply for two types of permits under the NSW Mobility Parking Scheme. The individual permit is a blue card, valid for five years and designed for those with permanent disabilities. The temporary permit is a red card, lasting up to six months for those with temporary conditions like recent injuries. Local services, including the Royal Rehab Private Petersham hospital just 502 meters away, can assist in understanding eligibility requirements. The distinction between these permits matters: choose the right one based on your medical situation.
Getting approved requires proper documentation and medical verification. A doctor must confirm your eligibility by completing the medical certificate section of the application form. If it's your first application or you have a new condition, you may need a fitness-to-drive assessment, especially if you hold a NSW driver's licence. This verification process ensures that disability parking permits go to those who genuinely need them. Visit the official NSW website for detailed application procedures and eligibility criteria.
Application Process and Medical Requirements
Applying for a mobility parking permit in Petersham requires careful preparation and documentation. Start by scheduling an appointment with your healthcare provider to obtain a medical report confirming your condition meets the scheme's criteria. Your doctor will fill out the medical certificate section of the Mobility Parking Scheme Application form, which forms the foundation of your entire application. Without this certified medical documentation, your application will be rejected. The process isn't complicated, but it does demand attention to detail and proper coordination with your healthcare team.
Once your medical certificate is ready, submit your complete application to Service NSW along with your driver's licence and proof of residency. Processing typically takes several weeks, so plan ahead if you need your permit urgently.
