Permit Types and Eligibility Requirements
In Tanah Merah, obtaining a disability parking permit is essential for residents with mobility challenges. Queensland offers two main permit types: the standard disability permit for existing holders and the mobility impairment permit for new applicants. If you have an interstate permit and move to Queensland, you must apply for a new one within 14 days of establishing residency in Tanah Merah.
Eligibility depends on demonstrating either a mobility impairment that requires wheelchair access, severe walking restrictions, or a legal vision impairment certified by a health professional. Temporary disabilities lasting six months or more may also qualify. Best of all, these permits are issued free of charge to all eligible residents. Conditions must be documented by your healthcare provider to support your application.
The Queensland Government recognizes various conditions, including arthritis, neurological disorders, and cardiovascular limitations. Your medical professional plays a crucial role in the assessment process. Understanding your eligibility status ensures you access the designated accessible bays you’re entitled to throughout Tanah Merah.
Application Process and Required Documentation
The application process for a disability parking permit in Tanah Merah involves completing a form either online or in person at your local Logan City Council office. Your medical professional must complete Part 2 of the application. This section documents your medical details and functional limitations. For applicants with vision impairments, you need to submit a Vision Impairment Travel Pass or relevant concession cards. If you do not provide these, medical certification becomes mandatory. Processing times typically range from two to four weeks after the council receives your complete documentation. Your permit will be sent by post to your Tanah Merah address, allowing immediate access to accessible parking spaces throughout the suburb.

Regulations and Penalties in Tanah Merah
Disability parking bays in Tanah Merah are strictly regulated. These regulations are in place to protect access for those who genuinely need them. Accessible parking spaces measure 3.2 metres wide and have designated hatched zones. This design allows wheelchair users safe entry and exit. You can find these bays near essential services, including Logan Hospital, Tanah Merah Shopping Centre, and the Logan City Council offices on Wembley Road.
Misusing these spaces carries serious consequences. Unauthorised parking in disability bays can result in fines up to $300 and vehicle impoundment in repeat cases. Residents and visitors in Tanah Merah must display valid permits at all times. Council parking officers regularly patrol high-traffic areas to enforce compliance. Respecting these regulations ensures that disabled access remains available for those who depend on it daily.

Temporary permits, which are typically valid for three to six months, require renewal with updated medical evidence.
