Understanding Your Disability Parking Permit
In North Hobart, the Australian Disability Parking Permit is your key to accessible parking across designated zones. This permit grants you extended parking privileges that go beyond standard time limits. If a sign shows 30 minutes, you get 2 hours. One hour becomes 2 hours. It's a genuine lifeline for medical visits to Calvary Hospital, just 1.16 kilometers away, or Royal Hobart Hospital at 1.31 kilometers from the city center.
Misusing these spaces carries real consequences: fines up to $300 aren't uncommon. Your permit must be displayed correctly and only used when you're actually in the vehicle. The rules exist to protect spaces for those who genuinely need them. Display requirements are straightforward: hang it from your rearview mirror where parking officers can see it immediately. Permits remain valid for two years, so once approved, you've got reliable access during that period.
