Understanding the Accessible Parking Permit Scheme
In Gisborne, individuals seeking a disability parking permit can choose from three distinct categories under the Accessible Parking Permit Scheme. This scheme was implemented by the Victorian Government. The permits cater to individual drivers or passengers with disabilities. They also serve organisations that assist those with mobility challenges. Additionally, City Access Permits are available for those requiring extra time for medical appointments or work commitments. Each permit type offers varying levels of parking concessions tailored to specific needs.
All applicants must submit requests through the Accessible Parking Permits system. This system has streamlined the process since its introduction on July 1, 2021. Permits remain free of charge, and current holders need not reapply until their expiry approaches. Once issued, these permits allow individuals to park in designated accessible bays. This facilitates easier access to local services, such as the Gisborne Medical Centre on Hamilton Street.
