Understanding the Accessible Parking Permit Scheme
The Accessible Parking Permit Scheme (APP) in Greater Dandenong provides essential support for individuals with disabilities. This support is particularly important for those who need convenient parking access. The scheme features several permit types, notably Australian Disability Parking (ADP) permits. These permits allow users to park in designated accessible bays or standard spots for double the time indicated. Category A permits enable holders to function as both drivers and passengers. This ensures varied accessibility options for different needs. The Greater Dandenong Council manages the entire application process online. This makes the process streamlined and user-friendly for residents across the municipality.
Permits under the APP have varying validity periods that are tailored to individual circumstances. You can obtain an ADP permit for five years. Temporary permits are also available for 6, 12, or 24 months, depending on your specific needs. A significant improvement in the scheme includes assessments by occupational therapists. This broadens the range of professional insights during the application review. It's critical to know that parking enforcement officers must easily view the permit's expiry date and number on your dashboard. Disability Parking Regulations and Enforcement in Greater Dandenong
The City of Greater Dandenong enforces specific regulations regarding accessible parking spaces. All drivers must follow these rules without exception. Under the Accessible Parking Permit Scheme, permits can only be used by those who are certified as eligible. This certification must come from a professional assessment by general practitioners or occupational therapists. It's essential to display your permit clearly on the dashboard to avoid penalties. Parking enforcement officers actively check for visible expiry dates and permit numbers during regular patrols. Misuse of these permits carries serious consequences and undermines access for genuinely eligible residents.

Greater Dandenong Council monitors compliance across major locations, including the Dandenong Hospital precinct, Dandenong Plaza shopping centre, and Dandenong Train Station.
