Disability Parking Regulations & Protected Spaces
Understanding the rules protecting disability parking spaces is crucial. The Disabled Persons' Parking Places (Scotland) Act 2009 ensures that accessible parking spaces meet strict specifications, typically requiring a minimum width of 2.4 meters for proper vehicle and wheelchair access. These regulations aren't suggestions. They're legal requirements. Misuse of designated bays carries hefty fines of up to £1,000, making it vital that everyone respects these spaces for those who genuinely need them.
Falkirk's town center and surrounding areas feature numerous protected bays near key facilities. Whether you're visiting Falkirk Steeple, Callendar Square Shopping Centre, or Falkirk Community Hospital, you'll find clearly marked spaces reserved for Blue Badge holders. The council regularly monitors these areas to prevent abuse. If you suspect misuse or need clarification on parking regulations, contact the council's transportation planning team. Understanding these rules protects the integrity of the scheme for everyone who depends on it.

Blue Badge Compliance & Preventing Parking Misuse
Protecting Blue Badge parking spaces requires vigilance from everyone. Misuse (whether by non-badge holders or badge holders parking outside designated areas) undermines the scheme's integrity. Falkirk Council actively enforces regulations to ensure spaces remain available for those with genuine disabilities. If you witness misuse near the Falkirk Steeple, Community Hospital, or shopping areas, report it to the council immediately. This protects resources for vulnerable residents who depend on accessible parking.
Badge holders themselves must follow strict rules. Your Blue Badge is non-transferable and valid only when the named person is in the vehicle. Parking outside designated bays, even with a valid badge, can result in penalties. The council and enforcement officers take these regulations seriously. Understanding and respecting these rules isn't bureaucracy. It's about maintaining fair access.
