Parking Near Phillip
Free parking options around Phillip’s parks and streets
Phillip has free parking at Park and Ride locations serving the Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo area, including Curtin Shops on Carruthers Street, North Weston on Kirkpatrick Street, Mawson on Mawson Drive and Athllon Drive with access from Mawson Place, and Mawson Oval on Beasley Street South (transport.act.gov.au). These sites suit drivers who can continue by Transport Canberra bus or light rail rather than park near a Phillip destination.
Smaller parks in Phillip rely on adjacent street parking, while larger reserves commonly have dedicated car parks, and parking at council reserves is almost always free (parks-australia.nears.me). The free option beside a reserve is useful for short visits, but the street or car park remains subject to any posted parking sign, permit condition or access restriction at the individual site.

Free Phillip parking alternatives when demand peaks
Free spaces in Phillip are most difficult to secure during weekday commuter periods and when activity rises around Woden town-centre businesses, nearby parks and events. A driver who cannot find a suitable space can shift the car to a Transport Canberra Park and Ride facility and complete the journey by bus or light rail.
Park and Ride parking is free, but some locations require a digital permit linked to a MyWay+ account. The permit is valid at every Park and Ride location in Canberra for three months, and the vehicle must be used for a connecting Transport Canberra journey.
Phillip permit, time-limit and Park and Ride conditions
Phillip street bays and reserve parking remain free only when the vehicle complies with the sign applying to that exact road or car park. A permissive parking sign sets the maximum continuous stay for the signed area, so a free bay cannot be treated as unlimited parking simply because no payment is required (accesscanberra.act.gov.au).
Parking inspectors validate the permit and public-transport journey, so the free arrangement is intended for commuters rather than a standalone all-day destination car park.
Phillip parking infringements and mobility-permit exceptions
ACT parking inspectors enforce the Road Transport (Road Rules) Regulation 2017, including the rule against parking continuously in a signed permissive-parking area beyond the displayed period (accesscanberra.act.gov.au). A vehicle that stays beyond the signed limit can receive a parking infringement even when the original bay was free.
A mobility-permit holder has a specific exception under section 168(3)(c): a motorist displaying a mobility permit may stop for up to five minutes in a no-parking area (accesscanberra.act.gov.au). That exception does not turn an ordinary free bay into unlimited parking. ACT parking infringements are handled through Access Canberra, which provides the infringement guide and the process for paying or challenging a notice.
