Parking Near Burwood
Free Parking Around Burwood Town Centre and Its Shopping Streets
Burwood’s unrestricted parking areas are intended for workers and commuters who need to leave a vehicle all day without congesting local streets. Burwood Council identifies unrestricted areas around the Burwood town centre, with the council map showing where unrestricted and restricted or timed on-street parking areas sit across the local council area (burwood.nsw.gov.au).
The car park operates from 6.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Sunday, although public-holiday hours may differ. Spaces marked NO PARKING are allocated to retail shop owners and are not general parking bays (burwood.nsw.gov.au). Emerald Square Car Park provides 1.5 hours free per car per day, while Burwood Plaza Car Park provides up to 2.0 hours free; both are accessed from Wynne Avenue.
Parksy Spaces Close to Burwood Stations and Shops When Free Bays Fill
Parksy lists a private parking space in Burwood priced at $30 a week and 50 metres away, making it suitable for a commuter who needs a regular nearby space rather than a short free stay. A second private Burwood space is 140 metres away and costs $50 a week, which suits longer weekday parking where unrestricted on-street spaces are occupied.
For hourly visits, Parksy lists a garage space in Burwood 190 metres away at $6 an hour and a Burwood Plaza space at the same distance and price. These options suit shoppers, appointments and visitors who have exceeded the free periods at nearby retail car parks.
Burwood Time Limits, Permits and Ticket Hours That Affect Free Stays
Burwood Council’s unrestricted areas allow all-day parking, but the council states that motorists must follow the restrictions shown on each sign and comply with the NSW Road Rules. Timed on-street areas in the council map are therefore not interchangeable with unrestricted areas, even when both are close to Burwood town centre (burwood.nsw.gov.au).
Wynne Avenue Car Park requires tickets from 9am to 10pm Monday to Sunday and public holidays, and A permit-only space is not a general free option, because its use depends on the relevant resident or other authorised permit shown by the sign (burwood.nsw.gov.au).
Burwood Free-Parking Pressure and the Lowest-Priced Named Alternatives
Free spaces are most difficult to secure when workers, commuters and retail visitors arrive together in the Burwood town centre. Burwood Grand Retail Parking has only approximately 25 short-term public spaces, while Emerald Square and Burwood Plaza restrict free parking to one stay per car per day or a maximum free period, so those spaces are suited to brief visits rather than an all-day plan (burwood.nsw.gov.au).
For a longer stay, Burwood Council’s Wynne Avenue Car Park offers an $11 early-bird all-day rate on Level B1.
Burwood Parking Penalties for Overstaying and How Council Notices Are Handled
Burwood Council’s public car parks require a parking ticket during the stated ticket period, and an unpaid or expired stay can lead to a parking penalty notice. On-street drivers can also receive a notice when a vehicle breaches a signposted time limit or other NSW Road Rule restriction. The council’s parking guidance places responsibility on motorists to follow the restriction displayed at the specific space (burwood.nsw.gov.au).
NSW parking penalties include a $140 fine for overstaying a parking time limit, while penalties for occupying a disabled parking space can reach $704 (chalked.cc). A Burwood Council penalty notice can be paid or challenged through the NSW Government’s penalty-notice process, with the notice details identifying the available payment and review pathways. The penalty amount belongs to the offence recorded on the notice, not to the ordinary price of parking at the car park.
