Parking Near Port Macquarie
Free Parking Across Port Macquarie CBD
Port Macquarie CBD parking is free, with time limits set by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to keep spaces available. The council regulates parking throughout the central business area, and many CBD spaces have electronic monitoring or regular ranger patrols (Port Macquarie-Hastings Council).
Port Central car park has 875 spaces over two levels. The top level provides 200 all-day spaces, while the remaining spaces have either one-hour or three-hour limits (Port Macquarie CBD Parking Map). The map identifies the car park and its separate time-limit areas, so drivers seeking a longer free stay can use the signed all-day section rather than a shorter-stay bay.
Port Macquarie Airport also offers 20-minute free parking for passenger drop-off and baggage at the terminal kerbside (Port Macquarie Airport). This free period applies at the airport site, not to CBD parking.
Port Macquarie Time Limits, Permits and Disability Concessions
Port Macquarie CBD parking remains free only when the signed time limit and parking conditions are followed. Port Macquarie-Hastings Council says time limits vary across the CBD, and Port Central car park contains one-hour, three-hour and all-day areas (Port Macquarie-Hastings Council; Port Macquarie CBD Parking Map).
The council also began a three-month Mobile Licence Plate Recognition trial in Port Macquarie CBD to replace manual tyre chalking, with no change to the existing parking regulations (Port Macquarie-Hastings Council).
A disabled driver displaying the Australian Disability Parking Permit and NSW Mobility Parking Scheme permit can park all day where a sign allows more than 30 minutes, two hours where a sign allows 30 minutes, and up to 30 minutes where a sign allows less than 30 minutes. The NSW permit must be displayed with the Australian permit, and the vehicle must be transporting the permit holder (Port Macquarie-Hastings Council).
Parking Penalties and Enforcement in Port Macquarie CBD
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council states that parking penalty notice amounts are set by the NSW Government rather than Council. Council does not accept payment directly, so a driver receiving a penalty notice must use the payment instructions on that notice (Port Macquarie-Hastings Council).
Rangers generally issue an on-the-spot notification for an alleged parking offence, usually as a penalty notice or notification card attached to the vehicle. A notice may instead be sent by mail or email when approaching the vehicle is unsafe, the vehicle leaves before attachment, or a ticketless enforcement zone uses licence plate recognition (Port Macquarie-Hastings Council).
During the initial Mobile Licence Plate Recognition trial, warnings are issued for alleged offences before fines resume after the initial phase (Port Macquarie-Hastings Council).
