Parking Near Shoal Bay
Free parking beside Shoal Bay’s break wall and on local streets
The clearest named free option is the parking area next to the break wall at the end of Teramby Road. Love Port Stephens says to drive past the main marina, continue to the end of Teramby Road and turn right to reach it (loveps.au). Port Stephens also describes the region as having mostly free parking, with exclusions focused on Nelson Bay CBD and d’Albora Marina foreshore at designated times (portstephens.org.au).
In Shoal Bay, a general free option may still be subject to Smart Parking signs rather than being universally unrestricted.
Shoal Bay Smart Parking permits remove fees but not street time limits
Port Stephens residents and ratepayers, plus people working at businesses in the Nelson Bay or Shoal Bay town centres, can apply for a Park Free Permit. The permit covers all Smart Parking locations in Port Stephens, and the vehicle number plate acts as the permit after registration (portstephens.nsw.gov.au). A business permit application is made by the business entity, and eligible businesses must be permanently located within the scheme area.
A Park Free Permit exempts the vehicle from parking fees, but Port Stephens says time-based parking restrictions still apply wherever they are signposted. The permit does not authorise parking in a disabled space without a Disability Parking Permit, a Loading Zone, a Bus Zone or a No Stopping area. Vehicle registration plates must remain current and clearly visible, and the permit holder must notify council within seven days after moving residence, disposing of the vehicle or changing licence plates (portstephens.nsw.gov.au).
Parksy’s Nelson Bay underground space suits Shoal Bay drivers who need certainty
Parksy lists a secure underground parking space in Nelson Bay, New South Wales, 3.2 kilometres from Shoal Bay. Its underground format suits a driver who wants a defined off-street space rather than circling for a free bay during a busy holiday period. The space is near enough to serve a Shoal Bay trip when local street parking and the Teramby Road break-wall area are full.
That listing is not a practical Shoal Bay alternative because Woolloomooloo is outside Shoal Bay, so the Nelson Bay underground space is the relevant nearby Parksy option for this trip.
