Parking Near Hobart
Free First-Hour Parking at Hobart City Car Parks
The City of Hobart’s car parks include a free first 60 minutes, making them useful for quick CBD errands rather than a full day out (City of Hobart). The free period applies before any paid parking time at the participating council car parks, so a driver staying longer needs to follow the displayed payment and time conditions.
Hobart CBD on-street parking is generally controlled by signs and meters rather than being broadly unrestricted.
Parksy Parking Beside Hobart’s CBD Destinations
Parksy lists a priced space at Convenient Village Cinema Parking in Hobart, directly at the destination, for $12 an hour. The Hobart City Church Car Park is also listed at 0 metres for $18 a day, suiting drivers who need a guaranteed central space when the free first-hour option is too short.
Parksy also lists a secure underground parking space in Hobart, 200 metres away, for $12 an hour. These priced spaces suit commuters, visitors and event-goers who cannot rely on a free bay lasting through the visit.
Hobart Signs, Timed Bays and Disability Parking Conditions
Hobart parking signs set the maximum stay for each bay, and a “1P” sign means a vehicle may remain for one hour during the sign’s operating period (City of Hobart). Parking time begins when the vehicle stops in the bay, including time spent sitting inside it. City Rangers patrol high-use areas, and parking sensors help monitor turnover.
A valid Disability Parking Permit may allow additional time in a standard timed space when an accessible bay is unavailable, but the permit holder must still follow the signposted restrictions (City of Hobart).
Moonah Park and Ride When Hobart Free Bays Fill
Metro’s Hobart Park and Ride facility is at 212 Main Road, Moonah, directly outside the Metro depot, with 69 car spaces, a bicycle rack, shelter and seating (Metro Tasmania). Vehicle parking is free there, and four nearby bus stops connect with services into the city, making the site a practical alternative when central Hobart spaces are full.
Clarence City Council says event changes can add disability, taxi, bus and police zones and alter timed parking around the venue (Clarence City Council). Hobart Airport’s car park is a separate short-stop option, with the first 10 minutes free, but it is at 6 Hinkler Road, Cambridge, rather than in central Hobart (Hobart Airport).
