Parking Near Mornington
Free Car Parks and Streets Around Mornington Victoria
Mornington’s general parking is free, with locations offering anything from two hours to all-day parking (mainstreetmornington.com.au). These are useful for shopping trips, but the signed limit applies to each space.
Schnapper Point in Mornington is again free after the visitor-paid-parking pilot ended, and visitors no longer need an ePermit there (mornpen.vic.gov.au). The Schnapper Point car park remains a practical option for the foreshore, subject to its signed time restriction. Other free parking is available in Mornington’s streets and off-street areas, including spaces with restrictions ranging from two hours to all day. A free bay is therefore not necessarily an unrestricted bay, particularly around Main Street and the foreshore.
Mornington Time Limits and Permit Rules for Free Bays
Mornington’s free parking remains free only while the vehicle follows the sign at the particular bay or car park. Main Street and surrounding streets contain different restrictions, including quarter-hour, half-hour, one-hour and other signed limits under the Mornington parking arrangements (mornpen.vic.gov.au). A driver using a short-stay bay cannot treat the space as all-day parking simply because no payment is required.
Schnapper Point’s free parking also remains subject to its signed time restriction, including restrictions such as 2P or 4P (mornpen.vic.gov.au). Resident ePermits are no longer required at Schnapper Point, so visitors can use the free visitor parking without a resident permit. Loading zones, no-standing areas and other controlled spaces around Mornington have their own restrictions, meaning a free general bay is different from a permit-controlled or operational space.
Parksy Parking Near Mornington When the Free Bays Are Full
Parksy lists secure covered parking for a boat in Mornington, 1.9 kilometres away, at $500 a week. This space suits a driver seeking secure longer-term storage rather than a short shopping stop, especially when an ordinary free bay cannot accommodate a boat.
Secure 24/7 private parking in Mount Eliza is 5.6 kilometres from Mornington and costs $2 an hour. The Mount Eliza space suits commuters or visitors who need round-the-clock access. Secure private parking in Mount Martha is 7.6 kilometres away at $300 a month, making that space more suitable for extended parking than a brief visit to Main Street.
Parksy also lists three priced spaces in Frankston, 10.8 kilometres from Mornington: convenient 24/7 public parking at $2 an hour, secure garage parking at $3 an hour, and secure garage parking at $2.50 an hour. These Frankston spaces suit drivers willing to travel farther for secure or 24/7 access.
Busy Mornington Days and Cheaper Ways to Leave the Car
Mornington’s free spaces are most likely to tighten around the major activity centre, Main Street shopping areas and the foreshore.
Schnapper Point is another named alternative for a foreshore visit because parking there is free after the visitor-paid-parking pilot ended (mornpen.vic.gov.au). The car park still operates with signed time restrictions, so it is better suited to a visit within the displayed limit than to leaving a vehicle for the day. Mornington’s free locations range from two-hour spaces to all-day parking, giving drivers a choice between short-stay central parking and longer-stay areas (mainstreetmornington.com.au).
Mornington Parking Infringements and Appeals After an Overstay
Mornington Peninsula Council treats an overstay as a parking infringement when the vehicle remains beyond the signed restriction. Schnapper Point is free, but the council still requires all users to follow the displayed time limit (mornpen.vic.gov.au). The same principle applies to Mornington’s free street and car-park bays, where the limit rather than a payment requirement controls lawful parking.
A driver who receives an infringement should use the notice details and the council’s appeals process, rather than assuming that free parking removes the enforcement rule.

Can I Park All Day in a Free Mornington Parking Bay?
Only where the sign allows all-day parking. Mornington includes some all-day areas, but other free spaces have shorter limits, including two-hour, quarter-hour, half-hour and one-hour restrictions (mainstreetmornington.com.au; mornpen.vic.gov.au). A bay being free does not make it unrestricted, particularly around Main Street and the foreshore.

Mornington Peninsula Council treats an overstay as a parking infringement when a vehicle remains beyond the signed restriction.
