Free verge and street parking options in Swan, Western Australia
In Swan, Western Australia, unrestricted kerbside parking is available only where the road signs impose no restriction. The City of Swan says vehicles parked without restriction should face the direction of traffic, remain more than 10 metres from an intersection, or 20 metres from traffic lights, and keep driveways and accessways clear (swan.wa.gov.au).
The City of Swan also regulates verge parking with signs. Where no sign prohibits verge parking, the adjacent landowner or occupier should be approached for consent, while paved verges remain paths and cannot be used for parking. Swan’s No Parking signs allow only quick passenger drop-off or pick-up, and No Stopping signs prohibit stopping except to avoid a collision (swan.wa.gov.au).
Swan signs and local-law limits that affect free parking
In Swan, a free-looking bay remains subject to every time and day restriction shown on its parking sign. The City of Swan says signs can apply restrictions on specified days and times, so a space may be available without payment yet still be limited by the displayed period (swan.wa.gov.au).
The City of Swan Parking Local Law 2023 prohibits avoiding a time limitation by moving a vehicle within a parking facility and returning it to the same or another bay. A vehicle on a footpath, median strip, traffic island, painted island, dividing strip or roundabout is not a lawful free-parking alternative (swan.wa.gov.au). A commercial vehicle, truck, bus, boat, trailer or caravan cannot use a Swan verge unless it is being loaded or unloaded without obstructing a carriageway or path.
