Free parking at Merthyr Tydfil Station and on Christmas weekends
Merthyr Tydfil Station has free parking for rail users only, making the APCOA station car park a practical no-charge choice when your journey starts by train (APCOA). Blue Badge users may park in a blue badge bay at Merthyr Tydfil Station when the badge is displayed at all times. The station offer is not general free parking for town-centre errands, so a driver visiting the shops without travelling by rail should not rely on it.

Merthyr Tydfil permits, tickets and Blue Badge conditions
Merthyr Tydfil's residential permit schemes reserve on-street spaces for nearby residential properties and operate 24 hours, with enforcement by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council (merthyr.gov.uk). A vehicle without a valid permit in one of those locations can receive a Penalty Charge Notice, so a resident-only bay is not a free option for a general visitor. The council says restrictions on permit numbers and types vary between areas.
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council says anyone with a Blue Badge can use a disabled persons parking bay (merthyr.gov.uk). In the council's car parks, all drivers, including Blue Badge holders, must ensure that a valid parking ticket is displayed on the dashboard. The council provides FREE ticket holders from the Civic Centre, while pay-and-display machines accept coins from £2 down to 5p. A Blue Badge concession therefore does not remove the ticket-display requirement in those council car parks.
Sunday and bank-holiday parking in Merthyr Tydfil
The council lists weekday charges of 70p for one hour, £1.50 for up to three hours, £3.50 for a day and £14 for a week, while Saturday parking costs £1 all day. These rates apply to the council's town-centre car parks, not to the rail-user-only offer at Merthyr Tydfil Station.

Penalty Charge Notices in Merthyr Tydfil
Merthyr Tydfil parking fines are administered by the South Wales Parking Group, which processes Penalty Charge Notices for Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council (merthyr.gov.uk). The South Wales Parking Group says its PCNs arise from civil parking contraventions supported by Traffic Regulation Orders (swpg.co.uk). That enforcement framework covers breaches such as parking in a residential permit location without the required permit, where the council says a PCN can be issued.
The council's parking service directs drivers to its Pay or Appeal a Parking Fine service, while the South Wales Parking Group provides the payment route for PCNs issued in Merthyr Tydfil (merthyr.gov.uk). A driver who believes a notice was issued incorrectly can use the appeal route rather than treating a ticket as a standard parking charge.
