Palm Ave., State Street Garage at 1538 State St., and St. Armands Garage at 57 N. Adams Dr. each provide a complimentary first hour when the license plate is entered into the system (sarasotafl.gov).

Sarasota’s cheaper fallback when free spaces fill
Free spaces in Sarasota are hardest to secure during busy downtown shopping periods, beach visits, and special events, when the City’s centrally located garages and surface lots attract drivers at the same time. The City lists more than 1,300 covered downtown spaces, including the State Street, Palm Avenue, and 2nd Street garages, giving drivers a practical paid fallback when the free periods are occupied (sarasotafl.gov).
The 1st Street Lot at 1530 1st St. and the Judicial Parking Lot at 2050 Ringling Blvd. charge $1 an hour, while the Fillmore Lot at 58 Fillmore Dr. provides 10 minutes free after the license plate is entered and then charges $1 an hour (sarasotafl.gov). Sarasota’s Bay Runner Trolley provides complimentary service seven days a week until midnight for reaching downtown without moving the car.
Sarasota time limits, permit spaces, and enforcement hours
Sarasota’s free garages and lots do not all offer unlimited stays. The Mark Garage’s free parking is limited to three hours on the second floor, Burns Square Lot allows three hours, Gulfstream Lot allows two hours, and Rosemary Square Lot allows three hours (sarasotafl.gov). The 2nd Street Garage limits levels two and three to four hours, while its ground level is reserved for Whole Foods customers for two hours.
A disabled parking space is not a general free option, because Sarasota reserves it for vehicles displaying the required disabled placard or license plate.
Sarasota parking citations and the cost of overstaying
Sarasota charges $30 for a time-restriction violation and $30 for an unpaid meter. Parking outside a marked space and other safety issues carry $50 citations, while illegal parking in a disabled space or a handicap access aisle costs $250 (sarasotafl.gov).
The Sarasota Parking Office at 1575 2nd Street, first floor, accepts payments during Monday through Friday hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and payment must be postmarked within 14 days of the citation date to avoid late-fee accrual (sarasotafl.gov). Drivers can appeal other citations online using the yellow Pay Citation button and the citation number or license plate. Sarasota charges a $25 processing fee when an appeal is upheld, while a disabled citation appeal carries a $7.50 administrative fee. A disabled citation dismissal appeal requires a valid placard and matching driver’s license or disabled license plate documentation.
