How to Find Your Vehicle at The Range Impound Facilities
The Range impound yards operate around the clock, allowing you to retrieve your vehicle 24/7 regardless of when the tow occurred. The main facility is within reasonable distance of most residential and commercial areas in The Range. You'll need identification and proof of ownership, typically your driver's license and vehicle registration, when you arrive to collect your car. Bring payment methods too; most yards accept cash and credit cards for the release fees and storage charges.
Understanding the impound yard procedures saves time and frustration. Queensland Police Service oversees the Towing of Motor Vehicles Scheme, which governs how towing operates across the state. You can verify your vehicle's location and the legitimacy of the tow through their official records before heading to the yard. Keep detailed notes of your vehicle's condition before towing; document any damage in photographs if possible. This documentation becomes crucial if you later dispute the towing or file a claim for damages caused during transport or storage.
Breaking Down Impound Fees and Recovery Costs in The Range
Recovering your vehicle from an impound lot in The Range involves multiple costs that stack up quickly if you delay. The initial release fee typically runs $250–$300, and then daily storage charges of approximately $50 accumulate for every day your vehicle remains in the facility. A week-long delay could cost an additional $350 just in storage. Payment is straightforward. Most yards accept both credit cards and cash, so you can settle accounts without unnecessary complications. Keep all receipts from the towing service; they're essential for insurance claims, disputes, or compensation appeals.
The total financial burden extends beyond just the yard fees. You may also face Brisbane City Council parking violation fines, which can range from $150 to $600 depending on the offense type. If your vehicle was towed due to unpaid parking tickets, those outstanding debts must be settled before release. Since Rockhampton Airport is less than 1 kilometer away and Rockhampton Base Hospital sits just 1.1 kilometers north, many residents and visitors find themselves caught in towing situations during busy travel periods. Understanding the full cost breakdown helps you budget for recovery and avoid future violations.
Disputing a Wrongful Tow in The Range
If you believe your vehicle was improperly towed, know that you have rights and options for recourse. The first action is contacting the towing company directly with evidence of the wrongful tow: photographs showing legal parking, timestamps, or witness statements. If the company won't cooperate, escalate to Brisbane City Council's transport and parking division, which oversees towing operations in The Range. You can file a formal complaint through their towed and seized vehicles inquiry system and request a full review of the incident.
Queensland Police Service also accepts complaints about improper towing under the Towing of Motor Vehicles Scheme. If an investigation determines the tow was unjustified, you're entitled to reimbursement of all fees paid: towing charges, storage costs, and release fees combined. Document everything: the time and location of parking, any signage present, weather conditions, and the names of any witnesses. Submit these materials with your dispute. For guidance on parking regulations and your rights, check the official towed and seized vehicles resources from Brisbane City Council. Many wrongful towing cases are resolved in the vehicle owner's favor when solid evidence is presented.
