What Happens When Your Car Gets Towed in Alpharetta
It's a sinking feeling when you return to where you parked your car, maybe near Avalon or North Point Mall, only to discover it's gone. This situation can happen to anyone in Alpharetta, and it often leads to immediate panic. You're suddenly faced with the stress of potential costs, lost time, and the uncertainty of where your vehicle has ended up. The thought of a hefty towing release fee, which can range from $75 to $150, adds to your frustration. Moreover, if your vehicle is taken to an impound lot, daily storage fees can pile up quickly, costing you even more money.
Your first step should be to remain calm. Assess where you last parked and confirm it was not in a restricted zone. If you have parked legally, check with nearby businesses or property management to see if they have a towing service they use. If local regulations allow, you may find information on the Georgia Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division about what to do next. Understanding your rights can help alleviate some of that panic. The Alpharetta Police Department and local property managers can provide clarity on whether the tow was lawful.
Locating Your Vehicle at Impound Lots

This company operates out of a yard that is open from 9 AM to 5 PM on weekdays and 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturdays, providing ample opportunity for vehicle retrieval. Additionally, you can call their office for details on your vehicle's status and exact fees owed. If you're unsure of any charges or procedures, contact United Towing directly for clarification. It's essential to understand that in Alpharetta, vehicles towed from private lots can incur different rules compared to those towed from public spaces. Keep documentation of your parking location to support any dispute.
Understanding Georgia's Towing Fee Regulations
If your vehicle has been towed in Alpharetta, it's essential to know the maximum towing fees and daily storage charges allowed by law. The Georgia Department of Public Safety regulates the maximum towing fees that can be charged, but local ordinances may set a lower cap. Make sure to check with the specific towing company for precise amounts applicable to your situation. Common fees can range from $75 to $150 for the initial tow, plus daily storage fees that can add up quickly, often around $25 to $30 per day.
Accepted payment methods for recovering your vehicle usually include cash, credit, or debit cards, which make it easier to cover costs. For detailed information regarding the towing process and your consumer protections, you can refer to the Georgia Attorney General towing resources for comprehensive guidance. Understanding these charges will help you budget effectively and avoid surprises when retrieving your car. Request an itemized receipt showing the breakdown of all fees charged by United Towing or any other company handling your vehicle.
Know Your Rights Against Wrongful Towing
If you believe your vehicle has been wrongfully towed in Alpharetta, it's crucial to understand your rights and recourse options. First, you should reach out directly to the towing company, such as United Towing located at 1160 Tidwell Rd, which may help resolve any issues without further complications. If initial communications do not yield satisfactory results, escalate your complaint in writing to a higher management level within the company. Document everything including photos of parking signs, your location, and all communication attempts.
The next step involves understanding whether the towing was consensual or non-consensual. Non-consensual tows from private property require the towing company to have a valid agreement with the property owner or manager.
