Weight Limits and Height Restrictions for Moving Vehicles
In Bellingham, Washington, moving trucks and vans must comply with strict weight limit regulations on city streets. Vehicles over 10,000 pounds face particular scrutiny from local enforcement. Height restrictions typically cap at 12 feet in most public parking spaces, though this varies by neighborhood. Always check signage carefully before positioning your moving vehicle.
Areas near Western Washington University and Bellingham International Airport impose additional restrictions you'll need to know about. Along State Street and the Fairhaven business district, larger vehicles face real challenges. The Bellingham City Council enforces these rules consistently. Before your move, consult the Washington State Department of Licensing to understand weight classifications for your specific moving truck or van.
Loading Zones and Driveway Clearance Rules
Loading zone regulations in Bellingham require active loading or unloading to avoid fines ranging from $25 to $100. Most zones display clear signage indicating permitted hours. Downtown and Fairhaven have particularly busy loading areas requiring strict compliance. Violations can derail your moving timeline and drain your budget unexpectedly.
Driveway clearance rules prevent parking too close to residential access points, which obstructs emergency vehicles and resident traffic. No-stopping exceptions complicate logistics near high-traffic areas.
