Avoiding Tow-Away Zones Around Bellingham
Understanding where towing occurs prevents costly mistakes. High-risk areas include expired meter zones on Bay Street, the downtown commercial district, and areas near Bellingham International Airport where restricted parking enforcement is strict. Western Washington University enforces aggressive towing policies in surrounding neighborhoods to protect resident parking. The Fairhaven historic district and waterfront areas near Boulevard Park also have designated no-parking zones that trigger immediate tows.
Read every sign carefully before leaving your vehicle. Signs indicating street cleaning schedules, time-limited parking, permit-only zones, and fire lane restrictions are primary towing triggers. Many violations occur simply because drivers misread or overlook signage. Pay special attention to alleyways, loading zones, and areas marked for disabled parking only. Familiarize yourself with street parking guidelines to identify safe alternatives and avoid impound lot visits altogether.
