Parking Costs in Portland, ME: Hourly, Daily & Monthly Rates

Portland’s parking budget depends heavily on whether you are visiting the downtown attractions or leaving a vehicle at Portland International Jetport. In the city centre, drivers near Our Lady of Victories, just 20 metres away, The Maine Lobsterman at 206 metres, and Mechanics Hall at 226 metres should expect commercial and municipal rates to vary by location and demand. As a practical planning range, short stays commonly fall around $2 to $5 per hour, while a full day can reach roughly $15 to $35, depending on the lot, garage, or street zone. Monthly costs are usually more economical for workers commuting into Portland’s service-sector employment areas than paying daily rates. A reasonable budgeting range is about $150 to $300 per month for a reserved or commuter space, although availability and proximity to offices, SPACE Gallery at 291 metres, and Grace at 213 metres can change the final amount. Portland’s 2020 population was 68,408, while Greater Portland serves approximately 550,000 people, so weekday demand can be stronger than visitor traffic suggests. Before committing, compare the total cost of monthly parking costs with public transport, shared rides, or a space farther from the central business area. Airport parking creates a separate cost pattern. Portland International Jetport provides a five-storey garage with more than 2,000 spaces, while short-term parking is free for the first hour and then $2 per hour, capped at $48 per day. Long-term facilities are listed at $16 per day, with the Pink Lot at $10 per day, and rates are scheduled to change on August 5, 2026, when long-term parking becomes $1 per 30 minutes with a $16 daily maximum. Workers comparing commuting budgets may also benefit from these parking cost insights.

How Portland Meters and Terminals Shape the Final Bill

Portland’s street meters and pay-and-display bays are best treated as variable expenses because tariffs depend on the specific downtown zone, operating hours, and posted restrictions. Drivers visiting Our Lady of Victories, Mechanics Hall, or the Maine Lobsterman should read the sign beside the vehicle space before paying, then note the maximum stay and enforcement window. For official rules, payment guidance, and municipal updates, check the Portland parking rules rather than relying on an old rate remembered from a previous visit. Contactless terminals can reduce wasted time when parking near Grace or SPACE Gallery, particularly during busy event periods when queues at a pay station slow access to nearby attractions. Nevertheless, keep a card or another accepted payment method available because not every meter or surface lot necessarily handles payments in the same way. At Portland International Jetport, short-term and long-term facilities accept cash or credit in listed areas, while the Green and Pink lots are credit-only; the Jetport’s airport parking details also identify the $16 daily long-term rate, $10 Pink Lot rate, and $2 hourly short-term tariff after the first free hour. Checking the terminal display before confirming payment helps prevent overpaying or exceeding the permitted stay.
