Understanding Accessible Car Bays and Legal Penalties
In Avalon, strict regulations govern accessible parking bay usage. These rules ensure people with disabilities have equal access. Each accessible bay must measure at least 2.4 meters wide. This width allows ample space for wheelchair access and mobility aids. Additionally, these bays are strategically located near shopping centres, medical facilities, offices, and train stations throughout the suburb. Misuse of designated spots can result in hefty fines of up to $300. This reinforces the importance of compliance with parking rules.
Enforcement is crucial, so Greater Geelong City Council actively monitors these areas for violations. If you encounter someone parked illegally in an accessible bay, report it to local authorities immediately. Illegal parking in these spaces prevents genuine users from accessing essential facilities.
