Understanding Thompson's Disability Parking Permits
In Thompson, Manitoba, individuals with mobility challenges can obtain disability parking permits in two categories: permanent and temporary. Permanent permits allow three years of usage before renewal, while temporary permits are issued based on healthcare provider assessment. Both cost just $15 CAD, making them accessible for most residents in the "Hub of the North."
To qualify, you must have a health condition limiting mobility: specifically, inability to walk more than 50 meters without difficulty. A regulated healthcare practitioner confirms this condition and submits your application to Manitoba Possible for processing, which typically takes ten business days. The permit itself isn't tied to vehicle ownership, meaning you can use it in any vehicle you're traveling in.
How to Apply for Your Permit in Thompson
The application process is straightforward when you have proper documentation ready. Start by consulting with a healthcare provider who understands your mobility needs. They'll complete the necessary forms and submit them to Manitoba Possible on your behalf. Ensure all paperwork is in order to avoid delays.
Once approved, your permit allows access to designated accessible parking bays throughout Thompson. Display your permit prominently while parked to avoid fines, which can reach $300 for misuse.
