Understanding Accessible Parking Permits in Holyrood
In Holyrood, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Motor Registration Division manages accessible parking permits. There are two distinct categories: permanent and temporary. Permanent permits are issued indefinitely for those with ongoing mobility needs. In contrast, temporary permits typically remain valid for up to six months. Each permit must be displayed prominently on your vehicle whenever parked in designated spots. This ensures compliance with local regulations. The system helps protect genuine accessibility spaces near critical facilities, such as the Holyrood Health Centre on Conception Bay Highway, and community gathering places throughout town.
The application process requires medical certification from a licensed healthcare professional. This certification must confirm your mobility challenges and need for accessibility support. After your healthcare provider completes the assessment, you'll submit your documentation directly to the Motor Registration Division. Statistics show that over 20,000 accessible parking permits have been issued across the region in recent years. This reflects growing awareness and community support. Permit Rules and Enforcement in Holyrood

This width is necessary to safely accommodate mobility aids and vehicle lifts. Local bylaw officers actively monitor these spaces and issue penalties up to $300 CAD for violations. This isn't a minor infraction. Towing of improperly parked vehicles remains common, so displaying your valid permit is absolutely essential whenever you park in these spots.
