Individual permits are granted to those whose mobility is significantly restricted due to a permanent or temporary disability. These permits are not vehicle-specific, meaning that the holder can use them in any vehicle as long as they are the driver or passenger. The permit must be prominently displayed on the vehicle's dashboard or sun visor to avoid fines.
Corporate permits, on the other hand, are issued to organizations that transport individuals with disabilities, providing them with designated access to accessible car spaces across the region. This distinction ensures that both individual users and service providers can access the parking they need. In Ontario, the issuance of these permits is governed by municipal bylaws, which can vary between regions. For instance, in Galt, fines for misusing an accessible permit can reach up to $5,000, emphasizing the importance of adhering to local regulations.
