Understanding Permit Rules and Restrictions
Your parking permit works only when you're physically in the vehicle. You cannot lend it to family, friends, or caregivers who drive without you present. This rule prevents misuse and protects genuine permit holders from space shortages. The permit itself is not vehicle-specific. You can use it in any car you're traveling in. Display it front-facing on your dashboard or clipped to your sun visor for officer visibility.
Regulations vary slightly across municipalities, so know Springwater Township's specific bylaws. Permits remain valid for five years from issue date and renew at no cost. Expired permits offer zero protection against parking tickets. Keep your permit visible at all times while parked in accessible bays. Concealing your permit while occupying an accessible space invites fines. Learn more about Ontario accessible parking rules to stay compliant.
Medical Eligibility and Permit Qualification
Only licensed healthcare practitioners can certify mobility limitations for Midhurst applicants. Doctors, nurse practitioners, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists all qualify to complete certification forms. Your practitioner must confirm your condition substantially limits independent mobility or creates significant pain during walking. The certification doesn't reveal your diagnosis. It simply confirms eligibility under provincial criteria.
Permanent conditions like cerebral palsy or severe arthritis qualify automatically. Temporary permits cover short-term needs following surgery or major injury: valid for three to twelve months depending on recovery timelines. Some residents qualify for both permanent accessible permits and temporary extensions during flare-ups. The Springwater Township office processes upgrades quickly when medical circumstances change.
