Understanding Toronto's Accessible Parking Permits
In Toronto, accessible parking permits are essential for individuals with mobility limitations. The city issues two primary categories: individual permits for persons with disabilities and permits for organizations that support disabled individuals. Each permit does not correspond to a specific vehicle. This allows the holder to use it in any car they are traveling in. The permits remain valid until the expiry date, and there is no cost associated with obtaining, renewing, or replacing them. To avoid unnecessary fines, display your permit clearly on your vehicle's dashboard or sun visor. This is mandatory when parked in designated bays.
Toronto's City Council establishes the rules governing accessible parking spaces, which can change without notice. Individuals must meet specific criteria that are verified by a healthcare professional. These criteria include limitations in mobility, the need for assistive devices, or conditions that severely restrict walking. The application process begins by gathering medical documentation from your healthcare provider. You must submit this documentation along with your application form. ServiceOntario locations throughout the city can assist with your submission. They are conveniently positioned near landmarks like Nathan Phillips Square.
