Getting Your Accessible Parking Permit in Saskatoon
The accessible parking permit application process in Saskatoon is straightforward and designed to get you approved quickly. You'll need to complete an application form and have a healthcare professional (physician, chiropractor, or occupational therapist) validate your mobility challenges. This medical certification confirms you cannot walk unassisted for more than 50 metres without significant difficulty, which is the key eligibility requirement. Once completed, submit your application at any SaskAbilities location or mail it directly to their office at 2310 Louise Avenue.
The current permit fee is just $10 CAD, though the City of Saskatoon will increase this to $60 CAD starting October 1, 2024. Your disability parking permit remains valid for one year and must be renewed annually. The beauty of these permits is that they allow you to park in paid zones without incurring fees, giving you flexibility when visiting popular spots like Saskatoon City Hospital or Jim Pattison Children's Hospital. For detailed guidelines on the application process, visit the SaskAbilities accessible parking page.
Understanding Permit Rules and Compliance in Saskatoon
Once you have your accessible parking permit, it's essential to display it correctly to avoid penalties. Hang the permit from your rear-view mirror with the expiry date facing outward. Misuse of these permits can result in hefty fines, up to $250, so proper compliance protects both you and others who genuinely need these spaces. The City of Saskatoon enforces these regulations strictly to ensure that designated accessible spaces remain available for those who truly require them.

The program covers major facilities throughout the city, from civic buildings to recreational centres. Remember that these permits grant you access to reserved spaces that offer extra width for wheelchairs, lifts, and mobility aids: spaces that make a real difference in your daily independence.
