Blue Badges remain valid for three years before renewal is needed. Eligibility depends on several criteria: receiving the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, being registered blind, or meeting other specific disability-related conditions assessed by your GP. The application process is straightforward, though documentation is essential. North Somerset Council handles all applications and can guide you through each step.
It's worth noting that misuse carries serious consequences. Fraudulent use can result in fines up to £1,000, and local authorities actively enforce these rules to protect fair access for genuine users. Parking Standards and Accessibility Rights in North Petherton
Every disabled parking space in North Petherton must meet strict accessibility standards set by UK regulations. Width, surface quality, proximity to facilities, and signage are all monitored to ensure genuine access for permit holders. Spaces should be close to building entrances, preferably on level ground, and protected from heavy traffic flow. If you notice a bay that doesn't meet these standards, you can report it to North Somerset Council for improvement.
Your Blue Badge gives you legal rights to use these spaces, but responsibility comes with it. Never lend your permit to others or use someone else's badge. This constitutes fraud. Equally, always display your permit correctly on your dashboard when parked. If you witness misuse or abuse of disability parking, report it to the council or local enforcement officers. Understanding these standards and your obligations ensures the scheme works fairly for everyone with genuine accessibility needs.
