Understanding Special Access Permits
West Bridgford residents with mobility challenges can access the special access permit system through Nottinghamshire County Council. You're eligible if you receive the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) with 12 points or more on the Mobility Section, or the War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement. These permits are provided completely free of charge and allow you to park in designated pedestrian areas across Nottinghamshire. The system has been designed specifically to support people like you.
Permits are valid in all specially designated access schemes within Nottinghamshire and remain valid for three years. When you park in a pedestrian zone, you must display your permit clearly on the nearside window, and parking duration is limited to a maximum of three hours. The permit cannot be transferred to other people, and allowing others to use it can result in penalties. For further details on eligibility and application processes, visit the Nottinghamshire County Council special access schemes page. Misusing your permit, such as parking where it obstructs pedestrians or blocking access routes, can lead to enforcement action and permit withdrawal.
How to Apply for Your Permit
Applying for a special access permit in West Bridgford involves straightforward steps that take just a few weeks. You can download the application form from the Nottinghamshire County Council website or request one via post from their Central Processing Unit. The application itself is simple and asks for basic personal details alongside your supporting medical evidence.
Once you submit your completed application with supporting documents, the council's processing team reviews your eligibility, typically within two to three weeks.
