Understanding Westgate's Special Access Permit Scheme
In Westgate, individuals with mobility difficulties can apply for a special access permit. This permit grants access to designated pedestrian zones across Nottinghamshire. It is issued completely free of charge and must be displayed prominently in your vehicle at all times. To qualify, you need to receive the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance. Alternatively, you may qualify with a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) that has 12 points or more on the Mobility Section, or the War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement. Seniors over 65 with severe walking difficulties may also be eligible for consideration.
Once approved, your permit enables parking in designated pedestrian zones for up to three hours. This makes it much easier to access local landmarks such as Arnold town centre and its bustling Market Place. Permit holders must follow strict regulations to keep their privileges. You cannot obstruct pedestrians, and you must never use an expired permit. For comprehensive details about eligibility and the application process, visit the Special Access Schemes on Nottinghamshire County Council website.
