They each have slightly different processes, but both conduct equally rigorous eligibility checks.

Understanding Middleton's Accessible Bay Regulations
Middleton's mobility parking spaces must meet strict legal standards. Each bay measures at least 2.4 meters wide. This provides enough room for wheelchair access and vehicle entry. The dimensions aren't negotiable because they are designed to ensure genuine accessibility for permit holders. Council enforcement teams patrol regularly throughout Middleton. They cover areas from Blenheim Road to the Main South Line station, checking for misuse and maintaining bay integrity.
Misusing an accessible bay carries real consequences. Fines range from $150 to $200 NZD. Additionally, repeat offenders face escalating penalties. Local authorities take this issue seriously because genuine permit holders depend on these reserved spaces. The Christchurch City Council coordinates enforcement with local parking operators. This effort helps keep bays available when they are needed most. Illegally parked vehicles are typically removed within 30 minutes. This ensures spaces remain protected for those with genuine mobility parking permits. For official guidance, check the Christchurch City Council parking information.
