Processing Timeline and City Council Approval
Expect the full process to take 4 to 6 months from start to finish. The Department of Finance reviews your application within 6 to 8 weeks. Then the Chicago Department of Transportation surveys your proposed location, which adds another 4 weeks. This survey ensures your spot meets accessibility standards and complies with local ordinances. Don't rush this stage. It's critical for approval.
After the survey, your application goes to City Council for final approval, which typically takes 2 to 4 weeks. If rejected, you have 30 days to appeal to the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities. For detailed guidance on residential disabled permits, visit the City of Chicago parking permits page.
