Parking Near Palliser
Free parking around Fairmont Palliser in downtown Calgary
Free parking around Fairmont Palliser is limited. Calgary Parking says on-street parking is free on New Year's Day, Alberta Family Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Canada Day and Civic Holiday (calgaryparking.com). These holiday exemptions apply to Calgary on-street parking rather than to hotel valet parking or private garages.
Fairmont Palliser provides valet parking at the hotel's main entrance on 9th Avenue, but the hotel describes that facility as valet parking rather than a general free public car park (fairmont.com). Drivers looking for a free space therefore need to use an eligible Calgary on-street bay on the listed holidays, with the exact street signage determining whether the bay is available for their vehicle.
Calgary on-street signs decide whether Palliser-area parking remains free
Calgary Parking's holiday rule makes on-street parking free on the named statutory holidays, but the rule belongs to Calgary on-street parking and does not convert Fairmont Palliser's valet service into free parking (calgaryparking.com). A bay's posted restriction still determines whether the vehicle can stop there legally.
Captain John Palliser School's parking page quotes the Calgary bylaw as prohibiting an owner or operator from stopping or parking a vehicle on either side of specified areas (cbe.ab.ca). The school page applies to the school frontage, not to every street near Fairmont Palliser, so school access restrictions remain separate from the holiday parking concession.
Busy Fairmont Palliser days make the paid downtown alternatives more practical
Free on-street bays near Fairmont Palliser are especially difficult to rely on when downtown Calgary is busy, because the holiday concession applies only on the listed holidays and does not create a general free-parking supply (calgaryparking.com). Fairmont Palliser's own valet service is available at the main entrance on 9th Avenue for drivers who choose hotel parking (fairmont.com).
Lot 83 suits drivers who need a paid space when an eligible free street bay is unavailable, while the hotel's valet option suits visitors who want parking at the entrance.

Fairmont Palliser also has valet parking at its main entrance on 9th Avenue, while its guest-services information lists short-term valet parking of up to 4 hours at $35 plus GST and long-term valet parking of more than 4 hours at $65 plus GST (fairmont.com). The valet facility is best suited to hotel guests or visitors prioritising door-side parking over the lower hourly cost of Lot 83.
