Parking Near New Westminster
Free Street Parking Options in New Westminster
New Westminster does not have a named general-use free car park in the cited local parking information, but the City allows parking for up to two hours in most areas without a payment instruction, provided the signed restriction is followed (newwestcity.ca). Streets around Douglas College can have three-hour parking, giving visitors a longer free stay than the usual two-hour areas. The Douglas College exception belongs to those signed locations rather than to every street in New Westminster.
Free parking is therefore most practical for a short appointment, shop or visit in a signed time-limited bay. A free bay is not a general all-day option, and a space reserved for a permit holder, customer, patient, student or staff member is not available to the public unless the sign expressly allows public parking.
New Westminster Time Limits and Permit Controls for Free Bays
The City of New Westminster sets a parking limit of up to two hours in most areas, while some parking around Douglas College allows three hours; the applicable street sign determines which limit applies (newwestcity.ca). The City’s Street and Traffic Bylaw also prohibits leaving a vehicle parked in an unrestricted location for more than 72 hours unless another restriction applies (patrickjohnstone.ca). The 72-hour rule concerns the vehicle remaining in place, so it does not turn a short-stay bay into unrestricted long-term parking.
Accessible parking concessions belong to vehicles displaying the required disabled parking authorization and do not make an ordinary signed bay unlimited or generally free.

New Westminster Parking Ticket Amounts and Payment Deadline
New Westminster’s bylaw lists a $70 penalty for failing to pay in a pay parking zone, reduced to $30 when paid within the applicable early-payment period and increased to $95 afterward (newwestcity.ca). The $70 amount applies to the fail-to-pay offence, not automatically to every parking violation.
New Westminster accepts parking-ticket payments online, in person or by mail, and the City’s Parking Services contact is 604-519-2010 (newwestcity.ca). A driver who disputes the ticket can use the City’s ticket process rather than treating an unpaid notice as a free-parking extension.
