Parking Near ByWard Market
Free Parking Options at ByWard Market Garage and Clarence Street
The City of Ottawa’s ByWard Market Garage at 70 Clarence Street offers up to four hours free for vehicles displaying a valid accessible permit. The concession applies to accessible-permit holders, not to general visitors using the municipal garage (ottawa.ca). This is the clearest named free parking option for an eligible driver close to the market.
ByWard Market’s on-street spaces and municipal lots are affected by paid-parking schedules, so a free visit depends on the particular sign and operating period at the space. Drivers seeking a general free space should distinguish unrestricted parking from accessible-permit concessions, because the four-hour free period at 70 Clarence Street is not available to every vehicle.
Busy ByWard Market Days and Lower-Cost Nearby Parking
ByWard Market is most difficult for free-space hunting during shopping periods, restaurant evenings, weekend visits and special events. Event traffic can therefore make a free on-street bay a poor backup plan.
When free spaces have gone, the ByWard Market Garage at 70 Clarence Street is a named paid alternative. Drivers using 70 Clarence Street should separate the garage’s paid public parking from the four-hour free concession reserved for vehicles displaying a valid accessible permit.
ByWard Market Parking Controls for Permits, Hours and Accessible Vehicles
Parking controls in ByWard Market can differ between municipal facilities and street spaces. The City of Ottawa identifies the ByWard Market Garage at 70 Clarence Street as a municipal parking lot, where a displayed valid accessible permit allows up to four hours free (ottawa.ca). The accessible-permit benefit belongs to qualifying permit holders and does not convert ordinary garage parking into free parking.
Those market opening hours describe the destination, not a universal parking timetable for every street or lot. A driver using a controlled bay must follow the restriction shown for that particular space, including any posted time limit, permit condition or paid period.
