Free Parking Options on Kingston, Ontario Streets
Kingston’s on-street parking costs $2 to $2.50 an hour from Monday to Saturday, with payment made upfront at a pay-and-display machine (cityofkingston.ca). The City’s parking by-law gives some street spaces a maximum time limit of two hours from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday, while other streets have different posted limits. The by-law also prohibits parking on a block of a street for longer than 12 consecutive hours.
Free parking therefore depends on the individual street sign and the hours shown for that space. Kingston’s permit-zone map identifies areas where permit restrictions apply, so a space reserved for permit holders is not a general free-parking option.

A third priced space at 35 Kingscourt Ave is 2.1 kilometres away and costs $2 an hour, making it better suited to drivers willing to park farther from downtown for the lower hourly rate.
Kingston Permit Zones and Street Time Limits That Affect Free Parking
Kingston’s parking by-law sets a maximum two-hour limit from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday, for the streets and blocks covered by that rule (cityofkingston.ca). The same by-law limits parking on a block of a street to 12 consecutive hours. Those limits mean that an unpaid space is not automatically an all-day space, even when no payment is required.
Kingston’s permit zones require a permit during the posted weekday time restrictions, so a permit-only space is free only for the authorized permit holder (cityofkingston.ca). Permit-zone boundaries are mapped by the City, and the street sign determines the restriction applying at the parked vehicle. Kingston also provides accessible parking enforcement through its parking rules, so a vehicle using an accessible space must meet the applicable eligibility requirements rather than treating the bay as general free parking.
Kingston Parking Ticket Amounts and Payment Process
Kingston’s parking-ticket page lists an early fine rate for the first seven days and a set fine rate for each violation type (cityofkingston.ca). The City can issue a Notice of Outstanding Parking Tickets when 10 or more parking fines remain unpaid on a vehicle’s licence plate.
Kingston provides a process to pay a parking ticket through its parking-ticket service, and a driver who disputes a ticket must use the City’s stated review or appeal route rather than ignoring the notice (cityofkingston.ca). An unpaid ticket can affect the vehicle’s licence-plate record, so payment or an appeal should be dealt with within the period printed on the ticket.
