Free Overnight Parking at Peterborough Municipal Lots and Downtown Bays
Peterborough permits free overnight parking at all City parking lots, the King Street Parkade and Simcoe Parking Garage from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m (peterborough.ca).
Downtown Peterborough municipal parking spaces also receive two hours of free parking during the City’s holiday promotion. The MLCC Branch at 345 Aylmer Street has a free parking lot with two spaces shared with Shopper’s Drug Mart (ptbolibrary.ca), making those spaces useful for a short library visit rather than general all-day parking.
The Priced Parksy Lot 2.2 Kilometres From Peterborough Parking Gaps
A secure, gated 24/7 parking lot in Peterborough is 2.2 kilometres away and costs $5.50 an hour. The lot suits drivers who need a guaranteed space after free municipal parking has filled, particularly for an evening visit that extends beyond Peterborough’s free overnight window.
The Parksy lot is a paid alternative rather than a free-space concession, so it is most useful when a driver values secure access and predictable availability over staying within a free bay. Its 24/7 access also suits trips that begin before municipal overnight parking starts or continue after the overnight period ends.
Peterborough Street Time Limits and Permit Restrictions That End Free Parking
Peterborough’s general highway rule limits parking to three hours unless an official sign displays a different limit (peterborough.ca). The city-wide three-hour rule applies to streets without a different signed restriction, while downtown on-street parking has a two-hour limit according to the local parking guide (ptbocanada.com).
A driver who leaves a vehicle beyond a signed street limit can therefore turn a free stop into a parking contravention even when no payment was required at arrival.
Peterborough Parking Penalties, Challenges and Payment Deadlines
Peterborough issues penalty notices for parking by-law contraventions, and every person issued a Penalty Charge Notice has the right to challenge the decision (peterborough.gov.uk). A challenge should not be paid first because payment prevents a later challenge. The notice explains how to submit the challenge, and supporting evidence can include a pay-and-display ticket, disabled blue badge, delivery receipt or parking permit.
If the challenge is received within the discounted period printed on the PCN and the charge is upheld, the reduced payment opportunity is re-offered.
