Parking Near Harwich
Free Parking Options Around Harwich Quay and the Port
Harwich International Port provides the clearest general free period: parking is free for up to 30 minutes, making the site suitable for a quick drop-off or collection rather than a longer visit (Harwich International Port). The port then charges £1.80 for up to 2 hours, so the free allowance does not cover a half-day ferry or town visit.
The Quay car park is a Tendring District Council site at CO12 3HH with one disabled space and one electric vehicle charging space (tendringdc.gov.uk). The Quay is not generally free for ordinary stays during its charging period, although Blue Badge holders may park there free for 3 hours when the clock is set to the arrival time and the badge is displayed with the date and wheelchair symbol facing outwards.
Harwich Port Parking Fills First on Ferry Days and Longer Visits
Harwich International Port is the practical low-cost fallback when the 30-minute free period is too short. The port charges £3.50 for up to 6 hours, £5.30 for up to 12 hours and £8.60 for a 24-hour period (Harwich International Port). Those bands suit a longer appointment or day visit better than repeatedly moving a car to preserve a short free stay.
Wellington Road car park charges £1 for 1 hour and £4 for over 4 hours (tendringdc.gov.uk). These named options keep a longer Harwich stay within a known tariff when free spaces have gone.

Harwich Permits, Badges and the Limits on Free Stays
Orwell Place car park in Dovercourt offers free parking only to Tendring residents with the Householder Parking Permit scheme. Orwell Place permit holders may park free between 11am and midnight, and the concession applies only at Orwell Place, not at other Dovercourt or Harwich car parks (tendringdc.gov.uk).
A permit-only concession, a Blue Badge concession and the port's 30-minute allowance therefore apply to their named users or site conditions, rather than creating unrestricted free parking throughout Harwich.
