Parking Near Herefordshire
Low-cost Herefordshire parking when free bays are occupied
Free spaces are hardest to find during busy shopping periods and events in Hereford and the county’s market towns, when short-stay bays turn over quickly. Herefordshire Council operates 39 car parks with approximately 4,500 spaces, and most are chargeable (herefordshire.gov.uk).
Merton Meadow car park in Hereford charges £1.10 for up to one hour, £2.20 for up to two hours and £3.30 for up to three hours from Monday to Saturday, with opening hours of 8am to 8pm (herefordshire.gov.uk).
Herefordshire time limits, enforcement and blue-badge rules for free spaces
Herefordshire’s free on-street spaces are generally controlled by limited-waiting restrictions, so a bay can be free without allowing an all-day stay (herefordshire.gov.uk). Hereford city-centre pay-and-display streets have a maximum stay of two hours, while individual streets and zones can carry their own restriction shown on the local sign.
Herefordshire Council enforces on-street and off-street restrictions with Civil Enforcement Officers who patrol every day of the week, including some evenings (herefordshire.gov.uk). The council’s officers can inspect disabled persons’ blue badges and can seize a badge believed to be misused for further investigation and possible prosecution. A blue badge therefore does not make misuse of a designated space lawful.

Herefordshire penalty charges for overstaying or ignoring restrictions
Herefordshire Council issues a penalty charge notice of either £70 or £50, with the applicable amount printed on the notice (herefordshire.gov.uk). Payment within 14 days reduces the charge by 50 per cent, making the payable amount £35 or £25, while the full amount must be paid within 28 days of issue.
Herefordshire Council accepts a challenge through its parking-fine process; a challenge received within 14 days that is unsuccessful gives the driver a further 14 days to pay (herefordshire.gov.uk). If the PCN remains unpaid after 28 days from service of a Notice to Owner, the council issues a Charge Certificate and begins the legal debt-registration process. The PCN number and vehicle details are needed to deal with payment or a challenge.
