Cheaper Peckham Parking When the Free Spaces Disappear
Free kerbside spaces in Peckham are most difficult to find near shops and businesses, where Southwark provides short-stay bays for visitors. A practical paid fallback is Peckham Town Centre car park on Cerise Road, which has approximately 50 spaces and charges £2.80 an hour (southwark.gov.uk). Choumert Grove car park on Choumert Grove has approximately 120 spaces and the same £2.80 an hour charge, giving drivers a larger council-run alternative when the town-centre facility is full.
Morrisons at the Peckham Aylesham Centre lists 362 spaces and charges £2 for one hour, £3 for two hours, £4 for three hours or £8 for 12 hours (ecpparkbuddy.com). The Morrisons site suits shopping or longer stays better than circling for a free bay, while the two Southwark car parks offer named central alternatives. Southwark also lists a monthly council car-park season ticket at £69.30 for regular users, although a season ticket does not guarantee a space.

Peckham Zones, Bays and Lines That Determine Free Parking
Southwark says controlled parking zones prioritise residents while supporting short-term visitors to shops and businesses, and each of its 31 zones has its own rules (southwark.gov.uk). A bay may therefore be free for a particular user or period without being general free parking. Southwark requires drivers to use marked spaces and stay inside the white bay lines, while disabled bays and bays with maximum stays remain separate local controls.
Double yellow lines prohibit parking at any time, including bank holidays, and do not require a separate sign. Areas without CPZs can still contain short-stay bays, disabled bays, bus lanes and yellow lines at junctions.
Peckham Parking Penalties and Challenging a Council Ticket
Southwark states that civil enforcement officers patrol Choumert Grove car park and Peckham Town Centre car park, while Peckham Wardens also patrol both council facilities (southwark.gov.uk). The council’s controlled-parking guidance says drivers should follow the restrictions shown by signs, bays and lines to avoid fines. A vehicle parked on double yellow lines in Peckham is restricted at all times, including bank holidays.
The council’s Choumert Grove and Peckham Town Centre pages do provide payment instructions for parking charges: drivers can use PayByPhone or visit a PayPoint shop and quote zone 84561. Those payment instructions cover the parking charge, not a penalty notice, so a driver should keep the two processes separate when dealing with an overstay or other contravention.
