Parking Near Peterborough
Free Weekday Afternoons at Peterborough’s Bishops Road, Car Haven, Riverside and Pleasure Fair Meadow
Peterborough City Council provides free parking after 3pm on weekdays at Bishops Road, Car Haven, Riverside and Pleasure Fair Meadow. The scheme runs from 3 August 2026 until the end of March 2028, making these four council-owned car parks the clearest general free-parking choices for an afternoon or evening city visit (peterborough.gov.uk).
Trinity Street is available to the public after 6pm Monday to Friday and all day on Saturday and Sunday, although Trinity Street is permit holders only from 8am to 6pm on weekdays. Car Haven also gives motorists up to 10 minutes without charge, while the council’s dedicated motorcycle areas at St Peter’s Road, Brook Street, Priestgate, Riverside, Lower Bridge Street and Bishops Road have no limit on stay for motorcycles. These free arrangements do not apply to ordinary cars in the motorcycle areas.
Peterborough Time Limits, Permit Zones and Blue Badge Concessions That Control Free Stays
Peterborough City Council applies pay-and-display charges from 7am to 8pm, seven days a week, unless an individual car park is marked otherwise. Bishops Road and Car Haven charge from 7am to 3pm Monday to Friday and from 7am to 8pm on Saturday and Sunday, so the weekday free period starts after the published charging window. Trinity Street is reserved for permit holders from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, with public parking outside those weekday hours (peterborough.gov.uk).
Resident Parking Zones cover streets, areas or bays marked for permit holders only, and a resident permit is valid only in the zone where the relevant property is located. Peterborough’s resident-bay streets include Windmill Street in Zone A, Kent Road in Zone H and George Street in Zone N; some bays on these streets are not permit-holder-only at all times, so the individual restriction governs the stay. Blue Badge holders may park free and without a time limit in Peterborough’s on-street chargeable locations when the badge is displayed.
Parksy Parking Near Central Peterborough When the Free Bays Are Full
Drivers needing a guaranteed paid alternative can use a monthly parking space in Fengate for £62 a month, shown 0 yards away, which suits regular commuters more than short visits. A secure space on Kent Road in PE3 costs £2 an hour and is also shown 0 yards away, making it useful for drivers who need a low hourly rate rather than a council-car-park tariff.
The Trinity Street option is particularly suited to a short central stay when the public hours are available, while the monthly Fengate space is aimed at repeat parking rather than an occasional shopping trip.
Peterborough Parking PCNs, Payment and Challenges After an Overstay
Peterborough City Council issues a Penalty Charge Notice when a vehicle breaches a controlled restriction, including parking in a restricted resident bay without a valid permit. Parking Enforcement Officers patrol resident zones and car parks, and officers can use a handheld device to check whether a vehicle has a permit recorded on the council database (peterborough.gov.uk).
The council’s parking-ticket service allows a Peterborough PCN to be paid online or through the 24-hour automated payment line on 0800 389 1977. The council’s Road Traffic Contraventions service also provides the route to view PCN details, make payment and challenge the notice.
