Poplar’s controlled bays depend on signs, permits and operating times
Tower Hamlets’ controlled parking zone uses white-lined bays with signs stating who may park. Poplar streets can include resident permit bays, permit-holder bays, business permit bays, permit-and-pay-and-phone bays, personalised disabled bays, car-club bays and doctors’ bays. A driver must meet the specific sign criteria, hold the relevant permit or voucher where required, make the required cashless payment, and keep all wheels within the white lines (Tower Hamlets Council).
The council states that parking controls on bays do not apply on public holidays.
A Poplar overstay can become a council penalty charge
Tower Hamlets enforces Poplar’s controlled parking bays through the restrictions shown on the roadside signs. A vehicle parked in a bay without meeting the stated permit, payment, user or marking requirements can receive a penalty charge notice, and a vehicle remaining beyond the one-hour market booking can lose the free-parking benefit.
The practical cost of overstaying therefore depends on the contravention recorded by Tower Hamlets and the notice issued for the vehicle.
