Free Parking in Reading, ENG: Where to Find It

Reading Bay Restrictions That Affect Free Parking

Reading Borough Council says permit parking schemes control commuter parking in residential areas, and the council’s parking-zone map shows only the outline of each zone, with not every street or property inside the outline necessarily included (reading.gov.uk). A permit-holder-only bay therefore remains available only to residents with valid permits, not to a visitor who wants free parking.

The council names Erleigh Road as having an 8am to 8pm restriction with a 2 hour maximum stay, and Sidmouth Street and South Street as having restrictions from 10am to 4pm on their specified sections. Addington Road has an 8am to 8pm restriction.

Reading Parking Fines, Discounts and Challenges

Reading Borough Council says a penalty charge notice can receive a 50% discount when paid within 14 or 21 days of the notice date, with the applicable period depending on the traffic violation (reading.gov.uk).

Reading Borough Council provides an online route to challenge a PCN and asks drivers to include the penalty charge notice number and supporting evidence, such as proof relevant to the challenge (reading.gov.uk). The University of Reading operates its own parking enforcement for university land: its visitor guidance says infringements are likely to incur a parking charge notice and directs first contact about appeals to Total Parking Solutions. A council PCN and a university parking charge notice consequently follow different challenge routes.
