Parking Near Somerset
Free parking options at Southside Car Park and Somerset streets
Southside Car Park in Street is free of charge outside its charging hours, giving drivers a council-operated option when arriving outside the paid period (somerset.gov.uk). Southside Car Park has standard, disabled, electric vehicle and motorcycle bays, with motorcycle parking free in the designated motorcycle bays. A motorcycle using a regular car space must display a valid parking ticket or use PayByPhone.
Somerset’s on-street system includes limited-waiting bays, disabled bays, permit parking, loading bays and pay-and-display bays, but the county authority treats each restriction as a defined parking control rather than a blanket free-parking entitlement (somerset.gov.uk).
Somerset time limits, permits and Blue Badge concessions
A valid Blue Badge allows free parking in a Southside bay, but the concession excludes electric vehicle charging bays. Designated motorcycle bays are free, while a motorcycle in a standard car space needs a ticket or PayByPhone.
Weston-super-Mare on-street pay-and-display bays have a three-hour maximum and a two-hour no-return period; Leigh Woods short-stay bays have a four-hour maximum and a two-hour no-return period (n-somerset.gov.uk). Somerset’s residential parking schemes can create permit parking for residents or businesses, while limited-waiting and pay-and-display bays remain separate categories (somerset.gov.uk). A resident or business permit does not turn a controlled bay into a general free space.

Somerset parking penalties and how enforcement escalates
Somerset Council applies a £50 Penalty Charge Notice for less serious parking contraventions such as overstaying a time limit, with the charge reduced to £25 when paid within 14 days (somerset.gov.uk). The penalty is separate from the parking tariff, so a free period does not remove the requirement to leave within its permitted time.
North Somerset penalty payments can be made through its automated payment system on 01934 426677, with an alternative payment line at 08450 230 355. Somerset Council publishes its parking-fine process for Penalty Charge Notices, while North Somerset provides the payment routes for its own civil parking enforcement notices.
