The arrangement covers weekday evenings, Saturday and Sunday, making Claregate Street a practical option for evening visits and weekend errands (apcoaconnect.ie).

Kildare Town parking fills fastest on weekday daytime visits
Kildare County Council pay parking in Kildare Town is enforced from 09:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday. That makes weekday daytime shopping, appointments and commuting the period when free spaces are least useful, while the council’s evening and weekend enforcement pattern gives drivers a better chance of using the free periods at Claregate Street or St Brigids Car Park (kildarecoco.ie).
For a paid daytime fallback, Academy Street Kildare P&D charges €1 an hour from Monday to Sunday. The Academy Street site accepts cash, online payment and app payment, so it is a low-cost named alternative when the free periods are unavailable or nearby spaces are occupied (apcoa.ie).
Parksy Academy Street spaces are 480 metres from Kildare parking
Parksy lists three priced outdoor parking options on Academy Street, 480 metres away: a parking space at €1 an hour, an outdoor lot at €1 an hour, and a 24/7 outdoor space at €1.20 an hour.
Parksy also lists a secure outdoor parking space on Station Road, 480 metres from the centre, at €1.20 an hour. Drivers looking for a covered option can use the 24/7 garage parking in Newbridge at €1.50 an hour, 7.4 kilometres away. A cheaper Newbridge alternative is the 24/7 Timbercraft parking space at €0.90 an hour, 7.7 kilometres away.
Kildare Town free periods depend on enforcement times and permits
Claregate Street’s free parking period runs from 17:00 to 09:00 on the next weekday, with the Friday evening period extending through Monday morning. St Brigids Car Park follows the same schedule.
Kildare County Council says resident, monthly and trader permits are virtual, while visitor permits remain paper discs. Permit parking is therefore a concession for the relevant permit holder, not a general free-parking option for every driver. The council also states that town-centre parking commonly uses a maximum stay of one hour to create turnover, where that restriction is applied by the local bye-laws or signs (kildarecoco.ie).
