Free Parking Options Around Dundalk Town Centre

Louth County Council’s Park ’n’ Stride scheme allows parents who drive their children to school to park free for a limited time in designated car parks in Dundalk (louthcoco.ie). The scheme is therefore aimed at school drop-off journeys rather than general daytime parking. Dundalk’s council pay-parking information identifies on-street and off-street parking as paid facilities, so ordinary town-centre spaces should not be treated as free simply because a parking bay is empty.
Dundalk Parking Choices When Free Spaces Are Full
Louth County Council lists all-day parking in Dundalk at €2 per day, providing a low-cost alternative when free spaces are unavailable (louthcoco.ie). The council also lists off-street car parks as part of Dundalk’s pay-parking system, while its on-street parking is charged by the hour.
The M1 Dundalk South Park and Share facility provides a named alternative for drivers who can leave a car outside the central streets and continue their journey from the motorway-side site (newry.ie). The Park and Share facility is on the south side of Dundalk and was described as Ireland’s first purpose-built Park and Share facility on the motorway network. Longwalk Shopping Centre’s free parking is tied to the shopping centre, so the council’s €2 all-day option is the clearer choice for a general town-centre visit when that facility is unsuitable.
Dundalk Restrictions That Affect Free and Paid Spaces
Louth County Council says pay parking operates in Dundalk, and its traffic-management guidance states that parking is prohibited during the hours shown on a street sign (louthcoco.ie). The sign therefore controls whether a particular council space can be used at a given time, rather than an assumption that an empty bay is free.
APCOA’s Clanbrassil Street location in Dundalk publishes separate weekday, Saturday, Sunday and bank-holiday tariff fields, while its enforcement-times instruction directs drivers to local signage for charging and enforcement hours (apcoa connect.ie). APCOA’s Francis Street location likewise separates weekday, Saturday, Sunday and bank-holiday tariff fields and directs drivers to the local signs for enforcement times (apcoa connect.ie). Dundalk Parking Penalties and Payment Routes
Louth County Council increased parking fines to €80 for listed offences including parking a vehicle on a footway, grass margin or median strip (louthcoco.ie). The €80 amount applies to those stated offences, rather than automatically describing every parking contravention in Dundalk.

A driver with a council parking notice can use those two details in the payment system to retrieve the relevant ticket.
